Dove Cresswell – Hollywood Dog Trainer
One of the most interesting animal trainers I’ve come across is Dove Cresswell. Why? Because she coaches dogs and other animals for films and television. She’s worked on various films including Space Buddies, The X Files: I Want to Believe, Cats and Dogs 2, Saved! and Sam’s Lake. She’s worked on the TV programs Romeo, Behind the Camera: Charlie’s Angels, and Cougar Crossings.
She’s trained a variety of animals including dogs, large reptiles, cougars, rodents, birds, cockroaches and deer. She’s trained all sizes of dogs and can train any dog breed up to the Master’s in Agility. That’s quite outstanding for a twenty-five year old.
Her first foray into dog training was with her own labrador pup which she took for dog obedience classes. Then, in her back yard, she spent hours teaching tricks and coaching her dog through an obstacle course.
She was a volunteer at the {Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals|SPCA}. By 17 she had a paid staff position at an animal hospital after she had volunteered there from the age of 16.
At university she got a BA in Science-Biology. She started working in films with a docu-drama called Cougar Crossings where she proved her ability with juvenile cougars.
At present she volunteers with That’ll Do Border Collie Rescue. Her own dogs are a Border Collie, an Australian Shepherd, and a mini Poodle x.
If you’re worried that animals {are mistreated|don’t enjoy their time} on film sets, Dove makes it quite clear that they do enjoy making films and that there’s lots of fun and playing in between takes! In USA , all animal trainers working in films and television are observed by the American Humane Association.
Do you want to see your dog in films? If so, you need to be certain it’s highly trained in obedience. Dove looks for dogs that compete in Agility or Obedience.
Dove has worked with some of the best dog trainers and taken the most useful methods from all of them. Based upon her experience and study she created her own dog training course. It uses the same methods she uses to coach animals for their film roles. You can be sure her methods are highly effective because you have to produce the goods on a film set.
