Distinctly Yummy-Colored Labrador Retrievers
Chocolate Labrador Retrievers have gone from the rarest color to the most wanted through time. Although they look like mud, but for some, they are yummy-colored Labrador Retrievers. They do not have the most common color of Labs but they definitely are squeezing their way in for popularity. These Labs with a chocolate-like color are actually creating a name for themselves in some states in the US. Well, they basically are like other Labrador Retrievers out there, just that they are well-liked for their distinct color. Different is now in, you see!
The Rumor and the Misconception
Our chocolate-like colored Labs were rumored to be not purebred sometime in the last 200 years because the color showed that Pointers were thrown in the mix. Originally, only black Labs were allowed in the 1800’s. A different kind of color was often perceived to be a sign of illness. And puppies like the yummy-colored Labrador Retrievers were oftentimes killed once discovered. Fortunately, the prejudice was dropped when the first chocolate Labrador Retriever was finally given the chance to be registered in 1892.
Nevertheless, breeders were still cautious talking about and showing off their differently-colored Labs despite after the first registration. Until finally in 1964, when a chocolate Labrador Retriever named Cookridge Tango won the Best of Breed Class in England. It was such a momentous moment that paved the way for its genes to be recognized and well-known. They are now seen as recessive genes in black Labradors.
Liver vs. Chocolate
The dark muddy brown color in chocolate Labs were originally called “liver”. It seems that the demand for chocolate-colored Labrador Retrievers could be directly accounted for its name. Because unlike its original name, the latest version is most preferred by most buyers despite the fact that they are one and the same from the rest of the other Labrador Retrievers out there.
Nevertheless, no matter what you call them, liver, chocolate, or even yummy-colored Labrador Retrievers, they are all loveable and can be very intelligent and wise dogs given the right training. They also need the kind of love and attention that one does to another human being. Aside from mentally-gifted, they can also be very sensitive just like people. Hence, proper care is necessary for its progress as well.
